      Christchurch & Francis Street

      Christchurch/Francis Street are a cool, centrally located district in an historic part of Dublin and are located 10 minutes from Dublin city centre and Temple Bar.  This entire area is the oldest part of the city and home to Dublin Castle, Christ Church Cathedral, St Patrick’s Cathedral and the old city walls. This is the place to live for those who want to be in the true heart of Dublin city, close to Grafton street, Trinity College and countless restaurants, pubs and shops. With its cobbled streets and striking architecture, this area is a perfect base for those wishing to be surrounded by history. Local attractions are plentiful with the Guinness Storehouse, Dublinia and Trinity College all on the doorstep. Francis Street itself is best known for its longstanding collection of antique shops, vintage shops and galleries, a heaven for unique shopping. HISTORY & CULTURE Home to Dublin’s two Medieval Cathedrals named Christ Church and St Patrick’s, both are a must-see.  Christ Church cathedral dates to the 11th century and this 1,000-year-old cathedral has multiple events that take place throughout the year with services, talks and music to be enjoyed.  St Patrick’s cathedral is the tallest and indeed largest in Ireland and serves as a place of worship, a visitor attraction and hosts many events. SCHOOLS Francis Street School offers education for boys from second to sixth class and from September 2021 will become a co-educational school. Warrenmount is a primary school primarily for girls and they are also delighted to announce their change of status to enrol boys from first to sixth class as a co-educational school in 2021. Secondary school options include Presentation Secondary School and Christian Brothers Secondary School. DINE & DRINK  This area is surrounded by endless restaurants, cafes, and bars and there are excellent cafés and eateries in the neighbourhood offering everything from great coffee, to delicious lunches, cakes and treats. More recently the area has seen an array of new restaurants including fine dining and bistro style options. Mannings Bakery and Cafe on Thomas Street offers excellent coffee, delicious cream cakes, and extensive range of confectionary and savoury foods.   Other independent coffee shops include Caffe Noto on Thomas Street and Ground State on James Street. Two Pups on Francis Street is a popular choice for first class coffee, quality lunch and weekend brunch. Tasty 8 on Meath Street offers locally sourced ingredients in a chilled environment. A popular place for lunch with wraps, bagels and specials. Burdock’s Fish and Chip shop is considered one of Dublin’s traditions operating as the city’s oldest chipper at its original location on Werburgh Street since 1913. The Bull and Castle has earned a great reputation as one of Dublin's top steak and seafood restaurants and offering an extensive selection of drinks from the beer hall it’s the perfect place to spend an evening. For more occasion dining options try Michellin-starred Variety Jones on Thomas Street or gastropub and restaurant Spitalfields on The Coombe. Traditional bars are plentiful and include Thomas House Pub, Arthur’s and Kennedys. The Brazen Head pub dates to 1198 and being the oldest pub in the city it’s a must see for locals and visitors. The jug is friendly bar on Francis Street serving great beer, wine and gin.   Other hip options are the Drop Dead Twice Taproom on Francis Street and Lucky’s on Meath Street. SHOP Since the 18th century, Francis Street has been a gem for offering the finest furniture and skilled craftsmanship. Today, this continues with its collection of antiques, bric-a-bracs, contemporary art, handmade stationery, artisan foods, antique jewellery and beautiful Irish silver. Close by at Newmarket Square more than 60 stalls sell vintage clothes, retro furniture and lots of unique finds at its flea market every month. OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD OFFERINGS Teeling Whiskey Distillery is a famous Irish whiskey distillery in Newmarket Square offering fantastic guided tours right through the production process of this famous Irish whiskey. A must for locals and visitors the area.

      The Coombe & Cork street

      This historic area of Dublin 8 is only a short distance from the city centre and is a good location for those who want to live close to the true heart of the city. Dublin 8 is regarded as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world to live in 2021 according to Timeout. Many Dubliners started life in the Coombe Women's Hospital. Cork Street is a major route to the city centre and is serviced by many bus routes. The Luas also serves this area with stops at Fatima and Rialto so getting around is really easy. Some of Ireland’s most-visited tourist sites including St Patrick’s and Christ Church Cathedrals and the Guinness Brewery. It is a walking distance to Trinity College and Grafton Street, and the Memorial Gardens at Islandbridge and the Phoenix Park with direct transport to the city centre via the Luas Red Line tram. Teeling Distillery, Francis Street with its many antique Shops, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral, and Trinity College are all right on the doorstep. Transport links are excellent within this area, well serviced by Dublin Bus. The green Luas line is a just a 15-minute walk to St. Stephen's green. HISTORY  The Coombe was originally a hollow where a river called The Coombe stream once ran and today the area is very much known for the hospital. Cork Street was once a centre of fine wool and silk hand-loom weaving.  In the latter decades of the 20th century, as inner-city residences moved to new suburbs the street became neglected. Between 2003 and 2010 the area was developed which produced notable new buildings which brought about new residents to the street. EDUCATION Local primary schools include St. Brigid’s Primary School on Cork Street and St. Audoens on Cook Street. Presentation Secondary school, Christian Brothers Secondary school, Holy Faith secondary school and The Coombe Academy Trust are all nearby options. DINE AND DRINK This area is surrounded by an abundance of restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries and shops in the nearby Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, and the Grafton Street areas. The Fumbally café on Fumbally Lane offer fresh, healthy, and simple food options on their breakfast and lunch menu options. All dogs are welcome, and they even provide dog bowls. Fallon's Pub offers one of the best pints of Guinness in Dublin and toasted sandwich in the city. Bakers pub on James Street is where the locals go for a casual bite and few drinks. Just up the road, beside the Harold’s Cross Bridge, you can enjoy a drink in a pub called MPV. They offer some great selection of beers and cocktails and they are also a pet friendly place! SHOP A Lidl can be found on Cork Street for your weekly shop with many convenient store options in the area. A local florist, bookstore, and cafes can all be enjoyed.

      South city centre

      Dublin 2 is a vibrant area of the city and includes Dublin’s finest hotels, restaurants, shops, museums and parks. Filled with impressive Georgian architecture, this area is primarily an exclusive business and shopping zone. Parks include the much loved St. Stephen's Green and the Iveagh Gardens. This area borders Dublin 4 and 8. Just some of the focal points include Temple Bar, Dame Street, Trinity College, College Green and the major shopping streets including Grafton Street and St Stephens Green. Tourist attractions are plentiful and include Dublin Castle, the Olympia Theatre, Leinster House and some of the country’s leading museums. The entire area is serviced by every bus route, with Luas stops at St Stephen’s Green for green line and Abbey Street for red line access. Dublin city bikes are dotted around this area and it is close to all major bus and train stations. Given the central location to everything, you can easily get around on foot.

      Top Areas

      Temple Bar is Dublin’s most famous neighbourhood with live music to be enjoyed every night. It is best known for being the place to be after dark. Visitors and locals hit the cobblestone streets looking for entertainment right in the centre of the city. Before it became developed this area was previously a small artist district in the city centre and there are plenty of creative businesses to discover by day. The Old city dates from Viking and medieval times and is still apparent on the cobblestone district of the historic Old City which includes Dublin Castle, the remains of the city’s original walls, Christchurch and St. Patrick’s cathedral. Recently, Old City has also gained a status for its hip boutiques run by local designers. This area encompasses Dublin 8 zone also. Georgian Quarter Dublin spans from St Stephens Green to Merrion Square and beyond, and this area is charming and rich in heritage. This area is home to Dublin’s most famous landmarks and cultural spots, including the National Concert Hall, The National Gallery of Dublin and The Oscar Wilde House. Camden Street is bursting with independent shops, bars and restaurants.  Great food can be enjoyed at Camden Exchange and Pickle, and always a great buzz at the traditional pubs Flannerys, Devitts and the Bleeding Horse. Local markets still line the streets offering flowers and an array of fresh fruit and vegetable options.

      History & Culture

      Dublin Castle was once the seat of the British government's administration in Ireland and is now a major Irish government complex, conference centre and tourist attraction. Located off Dame Street visitors can enjoy informative self-guided tours. St Stephen’s Green Park is a historical much-loved park and garden, located in the centre of Dublin city. The park is an important public resource in the area and provides an oasis of green calm in the middle of a bustling city. Its four centuries of history are very visible throughout. The park hosts many important sculptural monuments to Irish history. Many species of birds and plants also call the park their home. Public facilities at St Stephen’s Green Park include a playground and a garden for the visually impaired. Trinity College was established in 1592, stands right in the centre of Dublin 2 at College Green. It is Ireland's oldest surviving university and is widely considered the most prestigious university in Ireland, and one of the most leading academic institutions in Europe. It has a beautiful campus and home to 17,000 students across all major disciplines. Iveagh Gardens is also known as Dublin's 'Secret Garden' is one of Dublin's finest parks. Designed in 1865 it was fully restored in 1995 with wonderful features including maze in box hedging with a sundial as its centrepiece. It holds a number of boutique events throughout the year in its charming setting.

Grafton Street is the most principal shopping street in Dublin city centre and an absolute must-visit for any shopping lover.
