Milltown

Milltown is a charming village in Dublin 6 approximately 4km away from Dublin city centre. Milltown’s reputation as a prosperous area still lives on and weekends can be extremely relaxing starting with a coffee and a cake from Wilde and Green and a stroll along the Dodder Walk.

Mount St. Anne’s is an upmarket elegant development located off the Milltown Road. Within easy access of Donnybrook and Ranelagh villages which both offer a host of stylish restaurants, bars, shops and amenities it’s a truly wonderful location to live.

Several schools and universities including UCD and Trinity are all just a short commute away. This area is serviced by the LUAS green line providing quick easy access to the city centre and Dundrum Town Centre and the N11 and M50 are all within easy reach.

History & Culture

The river Dodder, which flows through the area, was the perfect place for a mill race, a with a strong narrow current powered the water wheels. The bridge in Milltown was built in 1854 to carry trains from Harcourt Street to Bray and is now home to the Green line Luas since June 2004. Known as the Nine Arches, and to which for many years was used a Viaduct.

Shamrock Rovers football club ground was located on Glenmalure Park until 1987 which was since sold to developers and now known as Glenmalure Square. There is a beautiful trail walk along the river Dodder which brings you to Clonskeagh or all the way to Rathfarnham.

This area includes some of the best schools in the country including Alexandra College.

Milltown has a lovely local village vibe and there are mostly independent shops and restaurants in this area. You can find restaurants including Jamie Oliver and authentic Italian, Steps of Rome. Upmarket eatery and deli Wilde & Greene have wonderful food like sausage and bacon sambos, Belgian waffles and tuna melts. The Dropping Well is a well-known traditional pub and contemporary Irish restaurant.

If you’re looking for shops, there’s a large Spar on Milltown Road, or head to nearby Ranelagh for a Lidl, SuperValu and Tesco Express or to SuperValu in Rathgar village.
