Carrickmines

Carrickmines is an outer suburb of Dublin, close to Foxrock and Cabinteely in Dublin 18. It is a wonderful place for families to live with vast countryside, parks and the Dublin mountains, all to be explored with many opportunities for walking, cycling and hiking.

While there is no village presence there is easy access to other villages nearby including Stepaside, Foxrock and Shankill.  It is easily accessible with the M50 interchange and the LUAS line extension nearby. Several Dublin Bus routes also service the area.

HISTORY & CULTURE

Carrickmines Castle is an archaeological site which during the 12th century became a fortified Norman castle and village protecting the area around Dublin under English rule during the medieval period.

EDUCATION

The closest primary schools are Gaelscoil Shliabh Rua in Ballyogan, a mixed primary school and Holy Trinity in Leopardstown, also a mixed primary school.

Secondary schools are nearby and include Stepaside Educate Together secondary school and Rosemount School in Sandyford.

DINE & DRINKS

Food options are in primarily based in the retail park. The Vanilla Pod Eatery provides gourmet food at great priced in a relaxed environment. Worth a visit for quality food, coffee, wine and desserts.

Barry and Browne is another good coffee house and restaurant in the retail park offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Weekend brunch is a must.

Nearby options include One Bistro in Foxrock village and Woodruff in Stepaside village.   The Step Inn is a landmark pub with two bars and two restaurants, renowned for their friendly hospitality and excellent food and drinks.

Pubs are all located in the neighbouring areas. The Horse and Hound in Cabinteely is a friendly spot and the Gables in Foxrock is a popular neighbourhood place that serves quality food options all day.

SHOP

Carrickmines Retail Park is a mixture of retail and office space and is home to the IKEA delivery outlet. Nearby centres are Leopardstown Shopping Centre and Dundrum Shopping Centre and the villages of Foxrock, and Stepaside.

There is a Dunnes in Leopardstown, a Tesco Superstore in Ballybrack and a SuperValu and a Lidl in Deansgrange.   Beacon South Quarter shopping centre located nearby in Sandyford is home to Woodies, EZ Living, Mindy Browne’s Interiors and BoConcept.

OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD OFFERINGS

Leopardstown racecourse is home to Irish horse racing in an excellent venue and plays host to the biggest races in the calendar.

Carrickmines Equestrian Centre is a friendly, family run centre providing quality horse riding and pony camps.

Carrickmines Golf Club offers a 9-hole course with wonderful views over Dublin bay and best described as a hilly parkland meadowland course.
