Leopardstown

Leopardstown is a quiet, mainly residential area in South Dublin, with many established estates, nestled between the M50 and the foot of the Dublin mountains. It is well known for its racecourse and is home to many amenities including Glencairn Park.

There is an excellent selection of schools in the area and it is very well connected with transport links with many bus routes services this area, Glencairn Luas stop on the doorstep and the M50 just a short distance away.

This area adjoins the neighbouring areas of Sandyford, Stepaside, Ballyogan, Foxrock and Stillorgan.

Located on the foot of the mountains means it is a great location for mountain biking and hiking and only 15 minutes from the sea to enjoy a walk along the pier at Dun Laoghaire.

History & culture

During the middle ages, it was home to a leper colony, and this is where the name originated. Today its best known for its racecourse, an important one across the country and famous for its Christmas racing events.

Leopardstown Park Hospital is a magnificent country manor set in 100 acres of parkland. Derived from the devastation of the First World War, the house and its grounds were used to treat soldiers who had been disabled while serving with the British forces.

Education

There are four primary schools in Leopardstown or close by. Holy Trinity (Catholic mixed); Gaelscoil Thaobh na Coille (Catholic and mixed), Gaelscoil Shliabh Rua (multi-denominational mixed); and Stepaside Educate Together (multi-denominational mixed).

There are no post-primary schools in Leopardstown but there are several options nearby.

Dine & drinks

For coffee lovers, the Art of Coffee is a good option. The Gables is a popular restaurant and wine bar in Foxrock and other local restaurants include Bann Thai. A great Guinness can be enjoyed at The Gallops and The Leopardstown Inn, the Horse and Hound and the Step Inn all popular options close by to be appreciated.

Shop

Leopardstown shopping centre has a local Dunnes store and Centra, along with a pharmacy and coffee shop. There is a Dunnes Stores in the shopping centre. Close by in Stillorgan, there are multiple shopping options in Stillorgan with Dunnes, Aldi and a Supervalu. Dundrum Town Centre and Carrickmines Park are both just a short drive away.
