        Churchtown

        Churchtown is a quiet southside neighbourhood in Dublin 14, close to Dundrum and Rathfarnham. It is popular with families and has a host of great amenities on the doorstep and good schools in the area. There are strong transport links in the area and it is close to the city centre by bus or Luas and it is also positioned well for the M50. The Luas is just a few short minutes’ walk at Dundrum and Windy Arbour.  There are a number of parks nearby to enjoy including Rathfarnham castle, St. Enda’s, and Marlay Park.   Nutgrove shopping centre is the main shopping centre in the area with Dundrum shopping centre just a short drive away. HISTORY Churchtown is named after the tiny St Nahi’s church and was once a large estate and agricultural land.  The Bottle Tower is a unique landmark and the name hails from a local landmark in 1742, now a popular gastropub. EDUCATION There are three primary schools and two  secondary school in the area. Good Shepherd National School,  Gaelscoil na Fuinseoige and Ballinteer Educate Together all provide mixed primary school education. De La Salle College is the main boys’ secondary school and Loreto Beaufort High School is the main all girls secondary school.  DINE & DRINK There are many great options in the area to be enjoyed.  Howard’s Way is a reliable local option serving great breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices. The Bottle Tower pub is a longstanding choice servicing great food, drinks, and craft beer. The Glenside is a popular option for locals to enjoy good food in a traditional setting with its own thatched roof. Churchtown stores is a new addition on Braemor Road offering tasting food and drinks in a cosy environment with a friendly atmosphere. Elephant and Castle is a popular franchise offering great food in a relaxed fun environment. Uncle Tom’s Cabin at Dundrum is a longstanding iconic bar and restaurant. Close by, on the grounds of Airfield estate, is Overends Kitchen who source and serve local produce. SHOPPING For a weekly shop, there is a Lidl, Aldi and Tesco at Nutgrove shopping centre. Close by in Dundrum there is an array of shopping options including a Tesco and Lidl.  For convenience shopping, there is a Supervalu located on the Braemor Road. OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD OFFERINGS Airfield Estate in Dundrum is an urban farm and gardens offering acres of green space, animals, and woodlands. A perfect place to enjoy a family day out. The Castle Golf Club and Milltown Golf Club is a superb 18-hole Parkland course and a haven for golf lovers on the doorstep to be enjoyed.
