        Balgriffin

Balgriffin has emerged as one of North Dublin’s most exciting and rapidly developing neighbourhoods. Located just 10km from the city centre, this peaceful suburb offers the perfect blend of modern housing, green open space, and excellent connectivity. Its mix of new developments and established communities make it highly attractive to first-time buyers, young families, and professionals looking for a quieter lifestyle without sacrificing access to key amenities.
A host of local attractions include Father Collins Park, Portmarnock Beach, Clarehall Shopping Centre, and the scenic grounds of Malahide Castle & Demesne. Major employers in nearby Clongriffin and Dublin Airport business zones, as well as easy access to the M1, M50 and Clongriffin DART, ensure Balgriffin is a convenient location for commuters.
        History & Culture
Balgriffin’s name comes from the Irish Baile Ghribhín, meaning “Griffin’s Town”, and it was once a small rural village on the northern outskirts of Dublin. While much of the area has been modernised, echoes of its past remain through the old Balgriffin Cemetery, the historic Balgriffin Inn, and the surrounding greenbelt lands once used for agriculture.
Its proximity to Baldoyle, Donaghmede, and Kinsealy ties it into a network of North Dublin suburbs with deep historical roots, stretching from Viking settlements on the coast to 19th-century railway expansions inland.
Modern development in the area has been carefully planned, with a strong focus on sustainability, green infrastructure, and community facilities, including the nearby Father Collins Park, which is Ireland’s first wholly sustainable park powered by wind turbines.
        Education
Balgriffin is ideally located for families with a variety of excellent schools nearby. Primary options include:
        • Belmayne Educate Together
        • Scoil Bhríde Junior & Senior National Schools
        • Gaelscoil Ghráinne
        • St. Francis of Assisi Primary School
For post-primary education, Clongriffin College offers a mixed secondary curriculum within walking distance, while other options include Donahies Community School and Portmarnock Community School.
Third-level institutions such as Dublin City University (DCU) and Trinity College are easily accessible via public transport.
        Dine & Drink
While still developing its own food scene, Balgriffin benefits from proximity to excellent dining options in Clarehall, Donaghmede, and especially Malahide—where locals enjoy a vibrant mix of restaurants, cafés, and gastropubs.
        Nearby favourites include:
        • Geisha Asian Restaurant (Clarehall)
        • Scotch Bonnet (Malahide)
        • Noble House (Donaghmede)
        • McHugh’s Wine & Dine (Portmarnock)
        • Local pubs including The Balgriffin Inn and The White House

The area is also home to a number of pharmacies, cafés, gyms, and service providers, ensuring convenience on your doorstep.
