Smithfield
Smithfield is a small and trendy city suburb on the Northside of Dublin city. Accessed effortlessly on foot, bus or Luas, this neighbourhood features a unique square, which is the central hub of activity. The square is a large, cobblestone plaza which has been transformed into a collection of small independent restaurants and cafés. It is also home to the famous Old Jameson Whiskey Distillery. History & Culture
Back in the 17th century, Smithfield was established as a marketplace and it was the main fair for farmers to come to sell their goods. Until recently the farmers market took place on the square every second Tuesday of the month. My Meat Wagon is a decent barbecue joint if you enjoy large servings of meat and for something small and delicious, try Proper Order for great coffee and doughnuts. Bonobo is a great new bar at the bottom of Constitution Hill, which serves craft beers and cocktails with excellent pizza and a large outdoor area. There are two great pubs in the area for traditional music. The Cobblestone is the famous one, but real locals go to M Hughes in the markets for a session.
