      Rialto

      Rialto is an established area in Dublin 8 very close to the city centre, with a strong sense of community amongst its longstanding residents and those who moved to the area.  The pretty redbrick houses give the area lots of charm and it still retains a nice village atmosphere with a beautiful flower filled roundabout. Its proximity to Kilmainham and the Liberties makes it a popular location for many. More recent years have seen a large influx of young families and professionals to the area. A renowned local landmark is the old Rialto cinema building which was first opened in 1936 and today brings an art deco vibe to the main street. Rialto is a five-minute drive to the Phoenix Park for lovely walks and running. Several Dublin bus routes serve the area with the 77a, 27 and 151. The Luas red line allows access to the city centre in 15 minutes and it is approx. 40-minute walk to Grafton Street. A brisk 15-minute walk will also get you to The Coombe Women's Hospital, Ireland’s largest hospital for women and infant’s healthcare. HISTORY & CULTURE This area has long connections to industry and the original canal was built to serve the Guinness brewery, and much of the housing in the area were constructed to accommodate Guinness employees at the end of the 19th century. EDUCATION There are five primary schools all close to Rialto. Scoil Treasa and St. James’s are Catholic, mixed schools.  Griffith Barracks and Canal Way Educate Together are multidenominational, mixed schools and Donore Avenue is Church of Ireland, mixed. Nearby post primary options are Presentation College and Loreto College Crumlin which are both Catholic all girls. CBS James Street is a Catholic, mixed option and Inchicore CFE, Crumlin CFE, St. Kevin’s College and Pearse College are all interdenominational, mixed options. DINE & DRINK The Circular offers great pizzas and drinks in a cool friendly setting. Daphne’s on South Circular Road offers great brunch options with fantastic pizzas and omelettes. The Rialto Bridge Café is a friendly neighbourhood option serving coffee, sandwiches and home cooked food. The Amber Grill has been a local institution since 1956 and is regarded as one of Dublin’s best chippers. The Arch Café offers locals tasty breakfast and lunch options serving a popular dish with black pudding and poached egg salad. For decent daytime coffee and treats options The Bakery and La Boulangerie are the places to go. The Bird Flanagan is a friendly local spot on South Circular Road with a good reputation for fine wines and great food and a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed pint. Lowes Pub in Dolphin’s Barn is a family run and a popular spot for locals. Other nearby options include The Royal Oak in Kilmainham, Fallon’s on the Coombe and Sheary’s in Crumlin. SHOP Rialto has a good range of local independent shops with pharmacies, DIY stores, a florist, and a butcher store. There is a Tesco Express at the crossroads in Dolphin’s Barn. For a weekly shop close by there is a Lidl on Cork Street and a Dunnes stores in Crumlin Shopping Centre. OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD OFFERINGS Herberton Leisure offers a state-of-the-art facility nearby with a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and gym offering extensive fitness classes to its members every week. It is a great community for likeminded people who love keeping healthy and strong.
