      Ballinteer

Ballinteer is a popular residential neighbourhood located at the base of the Dublin mountains in Dublin 16, close to the M50 and 10km from the city centre. It is considered a relatively new area with the introduction of new builds off Ballinteer Avenue in the 1920 which continued until the 1950s.  Development continued in the 1960s and 1980s and with the Celtic Tiger brought more houses and apartments positioned on a 24 acre site at Ballintyre. Today the area is full of young families, many who would have bought an apartment in the area and since took the next step and bought a house. Ballinteer is a village with many local amenities including a Supervalu, a specialist fruit and veg store, a post office, medical centre and two pubs.  Dundrum town centre is also a short walk or a five minute drive for shopping and dining. There is plenty of green space in the area with much built into the new housing developments. Marlay Park is a favourite with its 86 hectares of green space hosting many sports and has a food market every Saturday. The area is well connected with the M50 and bus routes include the 14, 14A, 16, 48A, 75, 11 and 161. The Luas at Dundrum is also within walking distance. EDUCATION There are many well regarded schools in the area, both primary and secondary. Primary schools are Ballinteer Educate Together, Our Lady’s Boys’ and Girls’ national schools, and St Attracta’s Junior School. Secondary schools include Ballinteer Community School which is mixed, and Wesley College which is mixed private. DINE AND DRINK There are two main pubs in the area. Ballinteer House serves good food options all day and has its own snooker hall.  The Coach House is a family run pub which has been recently renovated offering good food and drinks options. Morille’s Bistro is a lovely coffee shop who serve fresh coffee, pastries and bread daily. SHOP There is a Supervalu in Ballinteer for a weekly shop and there are unlimited options in Dundrum Town Centre and Nutgrove Shopping Centre, both just a few minutes away. OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD OFFERINGS Ballinteer St. John's club offers Gaelic football and hurling for both adults and children.
