The property dates from 1858 and has had just 6 owners in its long 165 year history, with the current owners purchasing the house in 1977.

Wellington Road is one of Dublin's most elegant residential roads, with its long sweeping driveways to the front of the residences, providing an unparalleled level of privacy and grandeur. No. 3 is positioned at the Pembroke Road end and is approached via an impressive, gated driveway and extensive front garden with a wonderful array of mature trees and shrubs. This impressive two storey over garden level property provides 274 sq.m of accommodation complemented by that all important rear south and west facing aspect.

The generously proportioned accommodation is laid out over three levels. The first floor provides an elegant entrance hall, two gracious interconnecting reception rooms with complementary Adams style period fireplaces. The kitchen/breakfast room is conveniently positioned on the hall floor return with access to a lovely southwest facing terrace overlooking the rear garden. The garden level is self-contained yet retains its connection to the main house and comprises of a lower-level entrance hall, galley style kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom and additional living room which offers flexibility as bedroom 4.

On the upper floor you will find the magnificent principal bedroom which spans the width of the house and features two large sash windows which flood the room with natural light. Bedroom two on this floor is also a very large double bedroom. The first return features an exceptionally rare domed light adding a refinement to accessing the main bathroom and separate shower room.

The granite walled rear town garden is a true oasis of privacy and tranquillity which enjoys a high degree of sunshine throughout the day taking full advantage of its south and west facing aspect.

All in all a magnificent family residence of distinction, viewing is highly recommended.

A Little bit of History

Built between 1858 and 1860, this elegant house has a long 165 year history.  The house was built on foot of a lease granted by the Right Honourable Sidney Herbert (a good friend and confidant of Florence Nightingale) to Brett Smith Esq. The terms of the lease called for the construction of a “good and substantial dwelling of the best materials”.  No 3 Wellington Road remained in the Smith family for the next 70 years, passing down through three generations. In 1930, Edith Sarah Smith sold the leasehold interest to Nora Ormond, who later sold it to Reginald Trimble. In 1967, the house was purchased by Dr. Ian Dalrymple, a well-known consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology, who later served as Master of the Rotunda Hospital. Dr. Dalrymple acquired the freehold to the property in 1968. The property has been the family home of the current owners since 1977.
