A bustling and cosmopolitan Dublin Docklands was on show in a recent edition of RTÉ’s Nationwide programme. The programme featured interviews with residents enjoying the broad scope of Docklands life. It also featured a visit to Spencer Dock; Owen Reilly, director of the Owen Reilly estate agency, showed the presenter, Mary Kennedy, around one of the penthouses currently on the market – for sale through Owen Reilly and Hooke & MacDonald.

The programme was a reminder of the remarkable transformation of Docklands. When the development of the International Financial Services Centre (the IFSC)began, seventeen thousand people lived in Docklands; now there are almost thirty thousand people living in Docklands and another thirty-one thousand people are employed in the area – in multi-nationals primarily but also in the surrounding SMEs. Living in Docklands has been well and truly embraced and the residential property market is thriving.

The reclamation of Spencer Dock has been lauded as the most ambitious urban re-generation project ever undertaken in Ireland. The apartment complex was completed in 2008 when the developers’ goal was to create one of Dublin’s most sought-after addresses. Owen Reilly says the development has lived up to its’ ambition; he says: “Spencer Dock has stood the test of time for all the right reasons – the quality of the design, the quality of the build and the consistently high level of maintenance and service provided for tenants by the concierge.” He continues: “The apartments are always highly sought on the sales and rental markets.”

Referring to the additional apartments that will come on stream at the landmark developments under construction at Dublin Landings, Capital Dock and Bolands Quay, Owen Reilly looks forward to this next phase of Docklands with enthusiasm; he says: “The transformation of brownfield sites and the addition of residential stock of a far higher specification will add to the appeal of Docklands and will lift all neighbourhoods and the value of existing commercial and residential property.”
